Description

This module aims to build on students' existing knowledge of Spanish and develop their written, oral and aural skills. It seeks to develop students' ability to express their opinion and interact successfully and efficiently within a Spanish-speaking environment. It also seeks to develop the students' social & cultural knowledge of the target country.

Learning Outcomes

1. Identify and produce key grammatical structures in Spanish at A2 level
2. Extrapolate and reproduce the main points of short texts
3. Extrapolate and reproduce the main points of oral discourse
4. Demonstrate intercultural awareness by contrasting cultural behaviours and values across diverse cultural contexts.
5. Source academic and mainstream material which can augment their linguistic and cultural knowledge.

Indicative Content and Learning Activities

Grammar
The module will commence by reviewing the topics and grammatical structure previously covered by the students, as well as clarifying the key grammatical points which will be covered in this module.

Expression
Students will be introduced to new structures to enable them to express themselves (e.g. opinons or reporting information) in a more elaborate manner.

Cultural topics
Students will cover a range of topics relating to cultural aspects of Spanish language, as well as studying various aspects of Spanish cultural.

Oral skills
Techniques for developing oral competency in Spanish language will be covered and students will have opportunities to apply these through the use of presentations, role plays, groups discussions etc.
