Description This module is designed for elementary users of Spanish and it will consolidate some of the essential aspects of the Spanish language and culture of Spanish-speaking countries. The module will enable students to describe, narrate and carry out simple tasks in Spanish in order to satisfy concrete needs e.g. compare and value places to live and work, talk about past experiences, organise a travel route for a set group among others. The students will be introduced to some cultural differences in relation to these topics.
Learning Outcomes 1. Extract information from a variety of basic authentic written texts that contain the most frequently used vocabulary and increasingly complex syntax, for example, what is happening in a photo story (e.g. in lifestyle magazine) and form an impression of what the characters are like. 2. Demonstrate effective oral skills in a range of social situations such as talking about your daily life, skills and past experiences. 3. Produce short texts on matters of personal relevance e.g. write short basic descriptions of events, activities and personal experiences using present and past. Also, engage in basic social communication online (e.g. sharing news and making/confirming arrangements to meet). 4. Demonstrate control of basic structures of the language as well as increasingly complex grammatical structures (e.g. word order in main and subordinate clauses, the use of genders and cases, adjectival endings, verb tenses). 5. Continue identifying economic, social and cultural similarities and differences between Ireland and Hispanic-speaking countries. 6. Use IT skills in Spanish to access language-specific resources (Life-long learning) to be able to reflect on your own learning path in your future progression in Spanish.
