This module aims to introduce the student to: anatomy terminology the organization of the body. tissue classification. musculoskeletal embryology. joint classification. muscle anatomy and mechanics. functional and surface anatomy of the shoulder girdle. functional and surface anatomy of the upper limb. neuroanatomy 1 (nerve, spinal cord). anatomy of the cervical spine the anatomy of the skull.

Learning Outcomes

1. Describe how the human body is organised
2. explain the relationship between tissues, organs and systems
3. Explain the embryological development of the musculoskeletal system
4. Describe the functional and surface anatomy of the shoulder girdle
5. Outline the functional and surface anatomy of the upper limb
6. State the anatomical structure of nerves, the brain and the spinal cord
7. Illustrate the pathways by which motor and sensory information passes between the periphery and the brain
8. Describe the anatomical structure of the skull
9. employ accurate anatomy terminology
