Module Aims
To provide skills and knowledge in advanced aesthetic and compositional image making. To further explore and expand mastery of advanced production techniques, language, styles and uses of the photographic image in print and digital media. Students continue to investigate exposure/development relationships in the processing and print photo dark room laboratories. Post-production exercises in presentation, publishing, exhibitions, and multimedia are undertaken. An introduction to flash and the use of artificial light in the photographic discipline defines project perimeters. To establish an understanding of project concept building and content Students are exposed to contemporary image-makers , critical concerns and issues of representation In photography, visual culture and various forms of multimedia product. Slide presentations, lectures, and video documentaries on such subjects as advertising, graphics, typography, photo-journalism, censorship, new technology, art and media representation are included. Students are involved with a variety of image making processes, including photograms, drawings, photo-montage, and 3-D photographic constructions. An interdisciplinary vocabulary in all image making mediums is defined. Emphasis on new media and its relationship to the lens-based image is stressed. The digital camera and basic digital precepts introduced.

Aesthetic History of Photography Contemporary Image makers, Issues: gender and trans-gendered images, colonialism and post colonialism, race and the representation of "the other: as marketing device and personal statement
