Module Aims
|
? To explore the central role played by holism, imagination, and the will in the psychosynthesis model of counselling and psychotherapy. ? To become proficient in applying the psychosynthesis model of counselling and psychotherapy, and practiced in accommodating psychosynthesis in an integrative model of practice.

Learning Outcomes
|
On completion of this module and following a period of personal study it is intended that the student will be able to: ? .Discuss the psychosynthesis model in detail; in particular, to: Understand the role of spirituality in psychosynthesis theory . Critically appraise the work of Assagioli and other key figures in the school of transpersonal psychotherapy. Critically describe psychosynthesis concepts such as identification, sub- personalities and the will- Use the techniques of psychosynthesis counselling, and give a rationale for the use of psychosynthesis methods in a given instance. ? Utilise his / her exploration of psychosynthesis counselling and psychotherapy to guide self-development and an increased level of self-awareness.

Indicative Syllabus

1. The origins and historical roots of psychosynthesis in psychotherapy. 2. Theoretical structure and principles of the psychosynthesis model of counselling and psychotherapy. 3. Assagioli and the work of other key transpersonal theorists, such as Wilber, Ferruci, and Rowan. 4. Differentiation of the levels within the individual's unconscious, and the role played by the study of the unconscious in understanding the individual. 5. The relationship between personality, body, feelings and thought. 6. Sub-personalities and their synthesis. 7. The will in psychosynthesis counselling and psychotherapy ( e.g., sense of purpose, creativity). 8. The power of the imagination in the healing process. 9. Caring for the needs of the soul within the context of contemporary cultural developments.
