Indicative Syllabus
|
|
The course provides an introduction to the history and culture of in the 20th century. It surveys the Spanish Civil War and the early years of the dictatorship so that students are aware of the importance of this period in the history of as a nation. Social and cultural change in since the 1960s will then be studied with particular reference to the following: Spanish identity and the nations of ; gender and sexuality; the recent emergence of issues of immigration and multiculturalism. Students will also study a number of literary texts including poetry and extracts from novels. The focus will be on basic textual analysis, development of reading skills and, where appropriate, how the texts illustrate the issues that have shaped society in in the 20th century as studied in the course.
