Indicative Content and
Learning Activities History and SocietyThe course provides an introduction ot the history and culture of Spain in the twentieth century. It surveys the Spanish Civil War and the early years of the dictatorship to make students aware of the historical importance of this period and why it had an important impact on cultural output. Social and cultural change since the 1960s is then studied with particular reference to the following: regionalism and identity; gender and sexuality; and the emergence of issues of immigration and multiculturalism.Literature and CultureA number of literary texts are studied, including selected poetry by Antonio Machado and extracts from novels. The focus is on basic textual analysis, development of reading skills and, where appropriate, on how the texts illustrate the issues that have shaped Spanish society in the twentieth century as studied in the course. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
