o To enable students to undertake a research project in an area of Sport Science or/and Health. o To develop the necessary skills to design and execute a research project, whether in the laboratory, the field or the archives o To develop the ability to present, interpret and discuss research results. 7 To develop a team approach where possible and appropriate

Learning Outcomes
Depending on their choice of research subject, students should gain: o The ability to design and execute research experiments in the laboratory, or research projects in the field or in the archives. o 'Hands on' experience with routine laboratory equipment or practical understanding of experimentation to complement lectures. o The capability of working independently and in a research team. 7 The ability to design and plan a project and manage the time involved to complete the project within given time constraints o Skills in accurately recording experimental and other data. o The ability to critically analyse and interpret data. o The ability to present results in a clear and concise manner. o Use of information sources - archives, library, computer etc.

Indicative Syllabus
o The student will choose a research project from a list submitted by various academic staff teaching on the Sport Science and Health programme Having undertaken the Literature Review module, the student will have researched the background to the project. o The student will spend 20-25 hours per week for an eight-week period undertaking the project. o On completion of the project, the student will present their results at a series of seminars to an audience of peers and academic staff as well as in poster presentation format o The student will subsequently submit a typed report of the research for inspection.
