Module Aims
  • To enable students to undertake a research project in an area of Sport Science or/and Health.
  • To develop the necessary skills to design and execute a research project, whether in the laboratory, the field or the archiveso
  • To develop the ability to present, interpret and discuss research results.
  • To develop a team approach where possible and appropriate


Learning Outcomes
  • Depending on their choice of research subject, students should gain:
  • The ability to design and execute research experiments in the laboratory, or research projects in the field or in the archives.
  • 'Hands on' experience with routine laboratory equipment or practical understanding of experimentation to complement lectures.The capability of working independently and in a research team
  • The ability to design and plan a project and manage the time involved to complete the project within given time constraintso Skills in accurately recording experimental and other data. The ability to critically analyse and interpret data. The ability to present results in a clear and concise manner.o Use of information sources - archives, library, computer etc.

Indicative Syllabus
  • The student will choose a research project from a list submitted by various academic staff teaching on the Sport Science and Health programme Having undertaken the Literature Review module, the student will have researched the background to the project.
  • The student will spend 20-25 hours per week for an eight-week period undertaking the project.o On completion of the project, the student will present their results at a series of seminars to an audience of peers and academic staff as well as in poster presentation formato The student will subsequently submit a typed report of the research for inspection.
