Module Aims | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This module aims to award credit to students who have had assessed involvement in extra-curricular activity during their period of study at DCU and have demonstrated reflective learning arising from participation in those activities. The aim of the module is to encourage activity, outside the rigour of academic study and assessment, which is recognised as adding to the rounding of the education of the student in its broadest sense. The activity/ies and the student's reflection on the learning arising will be recorded by the student in a learning diary or portfolio and will be assessed and approved by an Award Board appointed by Academic Council for this purpose. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Learning Outcomes: Students must demonstrate, through their learning diaries/portfolios, that they have been involved in a significant way and for a significant period in a diverse range of extra curricular activity/ies which have enhanced their learning for life during their period of study at DCU. The learning diary/portfolio will log activities and achievements and will reflect on learning and self-development. Assume that a 5 credit module load represents approximately 75 hours' work, which includes all teaching, in-course assignments, laboratory work or other specialised training and an estimated private learning time associated with the module. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

General guidelines will be issued by the Awards Board, but the initial assessment is a self-reflection on learning outcomes which will be evidenced by the submission of a learning diary/portfolio to the Awards Board which will then determine the award. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

All students must also attend the mandatory preparatory workshops on reflective learning and activity portfolio preparation.
