Learning Outcomes

1. Explain the principles and practices of database management in business organisations.
2. Explain what business information is, and how it is acquired efficiently.
3. Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the software architecture of a major database management system which is deployed widely in industry.
4. Apply the development lifecycle of software applications which use database technology. The student will be familiar with the design and implementation and rollout stages of such applications.
5. Interpret and proficient in basic database schema design techniques.
6. Apply basic formal processes which allow a database designer to construct a well designed schema. The student will be proficient in fundamentals of database schema design.
7. Design and build basic database applications using a variety of interfaces to the database (SQL, PHP, scripts, Spreadsheets)
8. Interact with a large database management system and ancillary application systems (Spreadsheets and bespoke applications).
