Description

This module equips students with skills and techniques in local history research. Students produce a piece of original research on a topic in local history.

Learning Outcomes

1. Critically analyse the methodological issues of concern to professional local historians
2. Distinguish between local history written according to high academic standards as opposed to that of inferior quality
3. Defend local history as a valid field of academic research
4. Locate and critically evaluate a well researched piece of local history
5. Critique the documentary and non-documentary primary sources available for writing local history
6. Carry out an original local history research project which complies with professional standards and conventions
