Description

This module seeks to provide a critical examination of emerging issues in European law and policy. The module will depend heavily on the lecturer’s research interests and expertise. Such issues include, but are not limited to: Increase and decrease in the membership of the EU, migration, climate change, challenges to the rule of law, trade wars, internal security and common foreign and defence policies.

Learning Outcomes

1. Achieve a deep understanding of emerging issues in European law and policy
2. Contextualise contemporary and emerging European law and policy issues with reference to previous issues that have arisen during the development of the EU
3. Understand and analyse how European law and policy issues may develop in the future
4. Become familiar with literature on these issues and policy options
5. Engage in research on a self-identified European law and policy issue, to make a presentation and write a paper that demonstrates critical engagement with this issue

Course Outline
When does an issue becomes critical to the EU, how have previous issues in European law and policy shaped the development of the EU and current issues in European law and policy such as membership of the EU, migration, climate change, challenges to the rule of law, trade wars, internal security and common foreign and defence policies.
