Module Aims

To develop an understanding of the genetic complexity of biological systems
To inform students on the current state of understanding of genetic structure and function in prokaryotes and eukaryotes
To provide an overview of genetic mechanisms, heredity and evolution

Learning Outcomes

A knowledge of bacterial and bacteriophage genetics, of genetic structure and organisation in eukaryotes, of population genetics and evolution, will be gained.
A conceptual framework will be established to enable the student to understand the field of genetics and genetic technologies.
