Module Aims
|
To introduce the student to the formats by which scientific knowledge is stored and the methods by which it can be retrieved. To introduce the conventions used in scientific writing.To explain plagiarism and to instil an appreciation of the ethical aspects of scientific writing.To develop the skills required for effectiuve oral presentation of scientific information

Learning Outcomes

The student will learn how to conduct a scientifific literature search, how to structure and reference scientific writing and how to verbally communicate scientific information.

Accessing scientific knowledge
Referencing systems, plagiarism
Scientific literature search on (i) a topic of broad scientific interest and (ii) a topic of fundamental biological importance.
Preparation of essays on each of (i) and (ii) above.
