Module Aims
The aim of this module is to provide students with a critical and structural approach to media and cultural theory in a specifically Irish context. Culture and identity are set in their wider social context by examining their relation to nationalism, interculturalism / multiculturalism, gender, globalisation, class and religion. Issues of media representation are considered in relation to changing social, economic and political structures.

Learning Outcomes
Students gain an insight into the core themes and issues at the heart of cultural, social and political life in contemporary Ireland. They examine the role of the media in representing the social world and in constructing the key discourses that define modern Ireland.
