Module Aims
In an media environment, increasingly dominated by digital media equipment and formats, students need to quickly familiarise themselves with the ever changing technology and concepts. This module aims to give a good grounding in digital media techniologies to help prepare the student for specialised production in years 2 and 3.

Learning Outcomes
Students successfully completing the module should: Possess a grounding in Digital Video hardware, acquisition/capture of content, and basic digital video concepts. Possess a grounding with Digital Audio hardware, acquisition/capture of content, and basic digital audio concepts. Possess a grounding with Digital Photography hardware, acquisition/capture of content, and basic digital photography concepts.

Indicative Syllabus
The module will deal with what types of cameras and formats exist, how a digital video camera captures a moving picture, how to operate a digital video camera and film a scene, types of digital audio hardware, how to operate digital audio hardware, types of digital audio formats, how to operate digital audio hardware to record an interview, digital Photography concepts, what types of cameras are there, how do they operate. What is composition and what types of photographs can be taken. What is Exposure, Aperture, Film Speed etc.
