Module Aims
|
The aim of this module is to introduce the student to the skills associated with a Mechatronic Engineer through the integration of theory with relevant practical work experience in companies and organisations in Ireland and abroad.

Learning Outcomes
|
On successful completion of this module students will be capable of:
7 Relating the principles of engineering, mathematics and computing and develop an understanding of their limitations for engineering practice.
7 Understanding the nature, uses and limitations of engineering materials, both electronic and mechanical.
7 Understanding the development of products and processes and related commercial issues.
7 Applying experimental, analytical and numerical methods appropriate to product/process development in the Mechatronics area.
7 Conversing with computer based tools and demonstrating proficiency in the design, simulation, manufacture and control of equipment.
7 Communicating engineering concepts and ideas by oral, written and graphical means.
7 Assimilating, interpreting and evaluating information form a wide range of sources including IT-based systems.

NOTE
|
Assume that a 15 credit module load represents approximately 225 hours' work, which includes all teaching, in-course assignments, laboratory work or other specialised training and an estimated private learning time associated with the module.

Indicative Syllabus
|
|
The INTRA assessment is graded simply as a pass or fail. The assessment is based on three components:
1. Continuous assessment by an industrial tutor
2. Assessment by an academic tutor
3. Formal written report
The INTRA report is submitted via the Office for Industrial and Business Relations, at the conclusion of the INTRA placement, and is assessed by the academic tutor. It is graded as either satisfactory or unsatisfactory. In the case of an unsatisfactory grading, an amended report may be resubmitted, at the discretion of the Office for Industrial and Business Relations. The student must achieve a satisfactory grading on the report in order to pass INTRA and be awarded credit.
