Description

INACTIVE - The aim of this module is to introduce the student to the skills associated with an Engineer through the integration of theory with relevant practical work experience in companies and organisations in Ireland or abroad.

Learning Outcomes

1. Apply theoretical aspects of their programme to relevant practical work experience in companies/organisations based in Ireland or abroad.
2. Identify, describe and formulate solutions to real-world engineering problems.
3. Apply experimental, analytical and numerical methods to the design of solutions appropriate to product/process development.
4. Identify, interpret and evaluate unseen technical information.
5. Demonstrate initiative and ingenuity in deriving novel solutions to specific engineering problems.
6. Assess the importance of task management, planning, working in teams and interdisciplinary collaboration in Engineering practice .
7. Communicate engineering concepts and ideas with engineers and non-engineers by oral, written and graphical means, both within the placement period and subsequent to the placement.
8. Demonstrate professional attributes, such as courtesy, punctuality, reliability, etc.
9. Document their duties performed, distinguishing their own role and describing the development of commercial products/processes and related commercial issues.
10. Identify their own learning needs; assess their progress in developing technical and professional skills and be able to outline a career plan.
11. Identify, evaluate and discuss ethical issues in engineering as they relate to their work.
