Module Aims
|
To introduce the sociological concepts and theories influencing society and evaluate how this influences nursing care.
|

Learning Outcomes
|
On completion of this module and following a period of personal study the student will be able to:
Demonstrate an understanding of the relevance of sociology in the study of health & illness.
Describe the major theories, concepts and theoretical approaches in sociology.
Demonstrate an understanding of the socialisation processes in nursing.
Identify theoretical approaches to sociological analysis of health & illness which are appropriate to nursing care in Ireland.
Outline how family,religion,culture,sexuality,gender and the media influence our concepts of health & illness in a changing Ireland.
