Module Aims
|
To examine the evidence and principles of care management of patients/clients with or being investigated for conditions relating to the GI tract, the endocrine system, the central nervous system and the musculo-skeletal system. To enable the student to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the nursing care of the above patient/client groups.To develop the clinical skills required for the nursing management of the above patient/client groups

Learning Outcomes
|
On completion of this module and following a period of personal study the student will be able to:Demonstrate the ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the nursing management of individuals in the above patient/client groups.Demonstrate ability in the clinical skills deemed necessary for the nursing management of the above patient/client groups. Demonstrate an ability to support patients / clients and families in their experience of ill health.Explore the nurses role in health promotion in relation to the above conditions.Discuss the role of the multidisciplinary team in relation to the above patient/client groups.Explore the contribution of theoretical models of nursing to the delivery of nursing care in respect of the above patient/client groups.

• Physiological, socio-cultural and psychological aspects of disease and conditions affecting the gastro-intestinal tract, the endocrine system, the central nervous system and the musculo-skeletal system. • In respect of the above patient / client groups: • Assessment strategies, care planning and delivery techniques, decision-making and evaluation of care. • The contribution of theoretical approaches to care • Relevant cognitive, affective and psycho-motor skills • Multi-disciplinary contribution • Relevant health promotion issues and strategies • Medical, Surgical and Pharmaceutical interventions.
