Description

This module is designed to give students an introduction to the basic concept of bioprocessing and to provide students with training in a variety of skills required to study and work in a modern scientific environment.

Learning Outcomes

1. Describe the role of the bioprocess engineer in the bioprocessing industries
2. Prepare and deliver an oral presentation on a scientific topic
3. Perform simple calculations and draw graphs in Excel
4. Work effectively in a small group setting

Scientific writing
Write a short (400 word) personal statement

Working in groups
Design and present engineering process for the production of a chemical biochemical on a large scale

Research and Presentation
Research a topic relevant to bioprocess engineering and present it to your peers in a five-minute oral presentation

Engineering Computation
Review of some key mathematics and computational concepts. Using formula's in Excel. Using solver to solve 'hard' equations. Drawing graphs in Excel.
