Description

To equip student teachers with the ability to define, create and maintain an effective learning environment. To introduce students to contemporary approaches in a range of teaching & learning skills. To develop confidence in a range of initial teaching skills through reviews, analysis, demonstration, peer coaching and guided feedback To provide students with a detailed knowledge and understanding of the content and assessment methodology of the Junior Cycle and Senior Cycle curricula in curriculum English in second-level schools. All students are required to participate in Micro-teaching as part of this module.

Learning Outcomes

1. Describe the content, methodology and assessment techniques of the Junior Cycle and Senior Cycle syllabus in curriculum Irish as taught in second-level schools
2. Map an appropriate teaching scheme for the Junior Cycle and Senior Cycle Syllabus in curriculum Irish as taught in second-level schools.
3. Articulate and relate the appropriate teaching methods and specific challenges in delivering curriculum Irish as taught in second-level schools.
4. Design a range of resources appropriate for use in the teaching curriculum Irish as taught in second-level schools.
5. Develop critical awareness of current problems and/or new insights generally informed by the forefront of a Irish language education.
6. Learn to self-evaluate and to take responsibility for continuing academic/professional development in Irish language education.
7. Critically evaluate the theoretical and practical implications of choosing and applying a particular research method such as action research or observation in the classroom setting
8. Evaluate empirical and theoretical research in this domain
