Description This module is conducted predominantly through German. Throughout the year, students will perform individual and collaborative tasks to develop their confidence and competence in spoken and written production as well as interaction in the target language. They will develop skills that will help them source and critically evaluate information about German-speaking cultures and produce spoken and written texts directed to a German-speaking audience, as well as lifelong language learning strategies. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Learning Outcomes 1. Extract information from a range of different written materials such as newspapers and websites on familiar subjects, such as everyday life, university life, interests, travel, current affairs, etc. 2. Produce written pieces on topics of interest and give his/her opinion on familiar matters. 3. Communicate orally and in an intelligible manner, on familiar topics related to his/her interests. 4. Understand announcements, instructions, and messages on concrete topics spoken in standard dialect at normal speed. 5. Show a good degree of grammatical control; draw on a sufficient vocabulary to express him/herself on most topics pertinent to his/her everyday life such as university life, interests, travel, current affairs, etc. and make only a few mistakes leading to misunderstanding. 6. Engage in activities to develop capacity for lifelong learning; reflect on his/her own development and learning experience. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Indicative Content and
Learning Activities FormatClassroom sessions are interactive and learner-centered. The syllabus focuses on increasing the language fluency and accuracy as well as covering essential cultural aspects through a variety of tasks, class activities and group projects. Students will be asked to work in pairs/groups and complete a variety of language assignments/tasks. On successful completion of this module, students will be able to function at an A2 level, orally and in writing. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
