  • Enhance knowledge and understanding of the research process necessary to underpin evidence-based practice in nursing. 

     


Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module and following a period of personal study the student will be able to:

  • Identify key differences between qualitative and quantitative research.
  • Discuss rationale for undertaking literature reviews.
  • Develop practice related questions.
  • Source best available evidence to answer questions.
  • Compare and contrast best available evidence.
  • Discuss how evidence gathered can underpin and influence practice.

  • Key features of quantitative and qualitative research.
  • Evolution of Evidence-based Practice (EBP).
  • Principles and process of EBP in nursing.
  • Search techniques including database tutorials.
  • Protocols & tools to determine quality of evidence collected.
  • Integrating evidence, clinical expertise and patient factors to inform subsequent practice.
