Description

The module will examine contemporary management and leadership issues which impact on nursing contexts. Students will explore and debate approaches to management and leadership within nursing and healthcare organisations and examine how they influence their role as nurses within this context. The scope of practice of the professional nurse and its impact on professional nursing will be examined. Preparation for professional practice following registration as qualified nurses will also be provided in conjunction with the Careers Service in DCU. Guidance on career planning including CV preparation, interview skills and identification of short to medium term career goals will be facilitated. Students will be exposed to a variety of learning activities during the course of the module including lectures & seminars and will be expected to participate actively in the learning process available.

Learning Outcomes

1. Analyse contemporary management and leadership issues in nursing and their implications for practice
2. Critique the factors that impact on the scope of practice of the registered nurse
3. Identify personal and professional developmental needs for future practice arising from engagement with relevant literature.
