Description

The increasing development of eHealth in national service delivery requires nursing graduates to have attained entry to practice informatics competencies to optimise leadership and management of professional practice. As an enabler, information and communication technology contributes to quality of service delivery, co-ordination of care and patient safety. Supporting leadership and management, this module builds on formative informatics skills developed in years 1-3 and provides students with competencies and knowledge to deliver patient centered care underpinned by effective practice based research. This module will also examine contemporary management and leadership issues which impact on nursing contexts. Students will explore and debate approaches to management and leadership within nursing and healthcare organisations and examine how they influence their role as nurses within this context.

Learning Outcomes

1. Develop an understanding of the principles of using ICT applications, in vitro diagnostic medical devices and other smart devices for delivery of nursing care and management of patient centric health information
2. Analyse contemporary management and leadership issues in nursing and their implications for practice.
3. Analyse the impact that health informatics, eHealth and the digital patient will have on management and leadership issues within nursing.
